SHAH ALAM - Former Selangor Menteri Besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo says he does not believe the claims that former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is receiving special treatment in prison.

Khir, who previously served six months in jail at the Kajang Prison said there was no double standard treatment at the facility.

He said the prison authorities did not offer any special treatment to inmates, regardless of their status, including national leaders who were serving sentences.

Previously, Najib was granted a 50 per cent reduction of his 12-year sentence. He began serving his jail sentence on Aug 23, 2022.

This meant that he was expected to be released on Aug 23, 2028.

On Thursday, independent speaker Wan Ji Wan Hussin was quoted by online news portal Malaysiakini claiming that he saw Najib at the Kajang Prison, but the former prime minister received "very special treatment" compared to the other inmates.

"I used to see him not wearing his prison uniform like the rest of us. He wore regular clothes, like being at home," he said adding that Najib was placed in a "special block", unlike him.

Wan Ji was released on March 22 after serving several months in jail following his conviction for sedition related to the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in 2014.
