KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating the true motive of an Israeli man arrested in Jalan Ampang on March 27.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain voiced concern about the timing of the Shalom Avitan's arrival during Ramadan, fearing potential disruption during the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

"Given the timing of his arrival, there's a possibility he intended to cause chaos during Hari Raya.

"If left unchecked, it could lead to havoc, particularly considering the arsenal of six firearms," he said during a press conference at the Federal Police headquarters here today.

Razarudin stressed the gravity of the situation, noting that while the suspect claimed to target a rival criminal group's family head, such an explanation cannot be taken lightly.

"As I've stated previously, his presence poses a threat not only to dignitaries, including the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister, but also to the safety of foreign diplomats and the public," he cautioned.

The possession of six pistols and 200 bullets remains a focal point of the investigation, with authorities striving to discern the suspect's true motives for being in the country.

"Claims by foreign media suggesting Shalom's mission is driven by personal vendettas cannot be fully accepted," Razarudin noted, highlighting the illogical need for an extensive arsenal for a targeted killing.
