KUALA LUMPUR - Courtesy can be integrated into the Madani agenda towards building a harmonious and competitive nation, says Research Fellow at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS) Dr Muhamad Azwan Abd Rahman.

He said the concept of courtesy and the Madani agenda share many similarities, such as emphasising the values of unity, justice, sustainability, and wisdom in human development.

He said it should be integrated into the Madani values to develop an advanced nation in the intellectual, spiritual, and material aspects.

"The Madaniagenda is good and can be aligned with the concept of courtesy because Madani encompasses sustainability, well-being and creativity.

"So, the value of courtesy is in line with the core of Madani, but what is the point of convergence? The understanding of the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara is crucial (in this matter),” he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Apa Khabar Malaysia programme recently.

Muhamad Azwan said 10 thrusts need to be achieved in developing the nation using the Madani-aligned courtesy value, including togetherness, orderliness, harmony, progress, justice, loyalty and nobility, enshrined in the Rukun Negara principles and the Rukun Negara preamble.

"The preamble of the Rukun Negara consists of five principles but people often forget about it. However, it is crucial for achieving the aspirations of the Malaysian nation,” he added. - BERNAMA
