Five men nabbed for threatening McDonald's customers

On Saturday, a video recording went viral on social media showing the group of men campaigning to boycott McDonald's Sungai Isap.

KUANTAN - Five men, including a soldier, were arrested by the police for allegedly provoking and threatening customers at a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in Sungai Isap here.

Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said all the suspects aged between 27 and 43 years old were detained at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters (IPD).

He said the arrest of the five suspects, who worked as bank officers, car salesman, contractors, traders and military personnel, was carried out at about 3.30pm on Saturday.

"The investigation found that two of the five suspects have past criminal records involving drug cases.

"We have also seized a Honda Jazz, a Mitsubishi Triton, a flag with a fishing rod, a Redmi mobile phone unit, a Yamaha LC motorcycle, a helmet, a white shirt, blue pants and a remote control," he said when contacted on Monday.

Wan Mohd Zahari said the four suspects admitted to being at the scene of the incident but denied making any criminal threats against the victim.

However, he said only one suspect allegedly made criminal threats against the victim on the day of the incident.

"Following that, all the suspects were remanded until this Wednesday for further investigation," he said.

Previously, the 40-year-old victim was said to be with his family at the fast-food premises at 10.25pm on Friday.

He said the trader saw some unknown men campaigning to boycott McDonald's there and called him.

"When the victim went to the group of men, one of them uttered abusive words to the complainant and provoked him.

"The victim tried to avoid them by going back into the McDonald's premises but after leaving to go home, the group of men again provoked the complainant.

"When the complainant approached the group of men, one of them reached for the helmet and gave it to his friend and the man threatened to beat the victim, but the situation was resolved by the victim's wife," he said.

According to Wan Mohd Zahari, the victim later came forward to make a report and the case was investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
