KUALA LUMPUR - Sinar Daily bags gold for the Best News Website small/medium media category at the Digital Media Asia Awards (DMA) 2024 tonight.

The awards ceremony took place tonight at the Digital Media Asia Conference organised by the World Association of News Publishers (Wan-Ifra).

Sinar Karangkraf Group editor-in-chief Zamri Rambli believed that the victory at the international level was a token of appreciation as well as a boost of motivation for the young team of Sinar Daily.

"Sinar Daily is one of the new digital products and the first English platform under Sinar Karangkraf that was launched in January, 2022.

"Under its editor Tasnim Lokman, the young team has been very creative and full of new ideas in their news analysis and videos content.

"The ideas for design and content on Sinar Daily portal are also put together by them according to the preference of the younger generation.

"I would also like to thank the award organiser, Wan-Ifra," he said.

DMA Awards 2024 is an international award that recognises the media industry specialising in publishing global news through digital content and technology.

Since its inception in 2009, DMA has brought together hundreds of industry players every year consisting of publishers, editors and digital executives from various digital platforms.

Tasnim, who accepted the award, said this year’s award was even more meaningful as Sinar Daily had won silver for the same category last year.

“For a young team and fresh platform, we are overwhelmed by this recognition. To know that we are not only noticed locally but also regionally only motivates us to provide the best and authentic content for our audience,” she said.

Meanwhile, SPH Media won five Gold and three Silvers whereas the South China Morning Post, the second-biggest winner, clinched two Golds and two Silvers.

Kumparan beat their larger counterparts to clinch overall Gold in the Best in Audience Engagement category.

They also won an award in the Best Use of Video under the small/medium media category for organisations with annual revenue less than USD 10 million a year.

This year’s competition also saw first-time winners in KBR, liputan6.com, Man of Many and Yonhap News Agency.
