SHAH ALAM - Umno asserts that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is not qualified to replace the party following the arrest of the son of the Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii said Shukri previously claimed that PN was ready to take over while describing the ups and downs of life.

He said the statement implied that the PN government in Perlis was now the best administration compared to under Umno.

"It turns out that what Shukri mentioned is like retribution when his own administration is not the best and is not as clean and stable as PN leaders proclaim.

"Many weaknesses and issues affecting the people are still unresolved in PN-led states, including Perlis, for example, the water problem that has never been resolved, planned projects not fulfilled but boasted about as if they are the 'best'," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier, the media reported that the son of the Perlis Menteri Besar was among six individuals remanded by the MACC to assist in investigations into the forgery of false claims documents amounting to RM600,000.

Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor allowed the remand order for all suspects from Wednesday until Thursday after receiving the MACC's request to conduct investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

According to sources, two civil servants in the Menteri Besar’s Office and State Secretary's Office were also detained, while the rest were contractors of the company.

Commenting on the arrests, Razlan said Umno demanded that Shukri explain to the people about his son's role in the state government.

"What is surprising and raises questions is how the son of a Menteri Besar who has nothing to do with state administration can be involved in this investigation?

"All this requires an explanation from the state leadership, especially Shukri.

"The people need to know and be given a clear explanation because it concerns the implementation of infrastructure development projects such as repairs, maintenance, supplies, and services throughout Perlis from 2022," he stressed.

He added that Umno is also awaiting the reactions of the top leaders of Pas and PN on the issue because the reputation of the Menteri Besar and Pas Perlis has been tarnished.
