SHAH ALAM - UEM Group Berhad is set for a new chapter as Datuk Hisham Hamdan steps in as chairman and Datuk Amran Hafiz Affifudin takes on the role of managing director, both effective from Aug 1.

Hisham, who has been with Khazanah since 2011, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Currently serving as Khazanah’s chief investment officer (CIO), Hisham has been pivotal in managing and expanding the organisation’s diverse investment portfolio.

His journey at Khazanah saw him leading the Public Markets division, which spans investments across more than ten countries. With a career that kicked off in equity analysis and investment banking, Hisham’s expertise is set to drive UEM Group towards achieving its strategic objectives.

Before his tenure at Khazanah, Hisham held significant roles at Sime Darby, including head of strategy and executive vice president for healthcare and utility businesses in China.

His robust academic background includes dual degrees in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Management from Purdue University, as well as completing the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Amran on the other hand, the newly appointed managing director, is no stranger to UEM Group.

Previously serving as its chairman, Amran’s extensive 27-year career includes significant contributions at Khazanah, where he managed investments across sectors such as Energy, Infrastructure and Sustainable Development.

Starting his professional journey with Petronas, Amran later transitioned to the private equity industry before joining Khazanah in 2011. Amran’s new role will see him spearheading UEM Group’s growth in renewable energy and infrastructure, aligning with Khazanah’s goals of decarbonising urban and industrial areas.

His strategic vision and leadership will be crucial in driving UEM Group’s subsidiaries towards value creation and sustainable development.

Khazanah managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir highlighted the importance of these appointments.

“Datuk Hisham’s role as chairman signifies the crucial part UEM Group plays in Khazanah’s strategy to advance Malaysia. His extensive experience will ensure strong coordination between Khazanah and UEM Group.

"Meanwhile, Datuk Amran’s leadership will drive UEM Group’s growth in renewable energy and infrastructure, crucial for our decarbonisation efforts,” he said.

As UEM Group bids farewell to Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, who served as Managing Director for five impactful years, Amirul expressed gratitude for his exemplary service.

With this new leadership team, UEM Group is ready to embark on a path of innovation, growth and sustainable success.
