WASHINGTON - In the final hours before final voting begins in Tuesday's US presidential election, Republican candidate Donald Trump encouraged a fight between migrants and seasoned athletes and called for the death penalty for migrants who kill US citizens and police officers, the German news agency (dpa) reported.

Trump, speaking in Pittsburgh in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, complained again about the influx of migrants at the United States' southern border, as he suggested college athletes from Penn State University should "wrestle them."

"Oh, those Penn State guys. I wanted them to wrestle the migrants," Trump said.

He also said that he told Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a mixed martial arts promotion company, to establish a migrant league and a UFC league so they could fight.

"I think the migrant (league) might actually win. That's how nasty some of these guys are."

Later on he called for the most severe punishment for migrants who kill US citizens or law enforcement officers.

"I am hereby calling for the death penalty for any migrant that kills an American citizen or a law enforcement officer," he told the crowd.

Trump, 78, made the restriction of illegal immigration one of his central campaign issues, repeatedly portrayed migrants as enemies of the US and deliberately stirred up anti-foreigner sentiment with false claims. - BERNAMA
