Beware: New cyber scam uses explicit video calls to blackmail victims
Many people unknowingly end up watching, unaware of what's happening. This is when the scammer seizes the opportunity to take a screenshot of the victim’s face.

SHAH ALAM – A new cyber scam has surfaced, where victims are blackmailed after answering explicit video calls from unknown numbers.
Former senior police officer Rahmat Fitri has warned the public against answering such calls, as scammers used them to capture victims' faces and demand money in exchange for their privacy.
"The victim would receive a video call from an unknown number. As soon as they answer, an explicit scene appears on the screen.
"Many people unknowingly end up watching, unaware of what's happening. This is when the scammer seizes the opportunity to take a screenshot of the victim’s face," he explained in a recent TikTok video.
Once the scammer obtained the compromising image, he said they will contact the victim and demand money, threatening to share the image with the victim's family or partner if payment was not made.
He said in a state of panic and fear, many ended up giving in and paying the money demanded.
He urged victims to report such incidents to the authorities and advised the public to be cautious of this cyber scam method.
"I call on the public to be more cautious and to spread this information to family and friends to prevent more people from falling victim to this scam," he added.
He also reminded the public to stay alert against evolving online scams and to avoid engaging with unknown video calls that could compromise their personal safety and reputation.
