MELAKA - A man has been remanded for seven days starting Monday on suspicion of killing his girlfriend in a house at Taman Seri Mangga on Sunday.

Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the 54-year-old suspect was arrested while receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital for injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was driven by jealousy and a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim.

"The suspect is believed to have sustained injuries in a suicide attempt. Police have also seized a sharp weapon suspected to have been used in the incident.

"Further investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said in a statement on Monday.

Police are still awaiting the autopsy results.

It is believed that the argument escalated due to the suspect's jealousy, as the victim was frequently taken to singing gigs by another man.

Sinar reported on Sunday that the victim, a part-time singer and mother of three, was found dead in a rented house, allegedly killed by her boyfriend.
