GEORGE TOWN – A medical officer was arrested after allegedly behaving indecently towards a female patient at a hospital here on Wednesday night.

Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said that the 43-year-old civil servant was detained at his workplace at 9.30pm.

"The suspect acted indecently at the workplace towards the 21-year-old victim.

"The suspect is now remanded for four days starting today until March 2 for further investigation," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the case was investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

It is understood that the victim had gone to the hospital for a heart examination conducted by the suspect.

The suspect allegedly asked the victim to remove her clothing and she complied, believing it to be a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the examination.

During the examination, only the victim and the suspect were in the room, with no female nurse present.

The suspect was also accused of locking the door during the procedure.

He was arrested after the hospital received information regarding his indecent behaviour.
