Shopping mall’s lower ground floor flooded with sewage water
The stench was overwhelming and faecal matter was visible in several areas, including on the escalator, said a witness.

GEORGE TOWN - Sewage water overflowed on the lower ground floor of a shopping mall on Thursday, flooding the area and causing panic among shoppers and traders.
A witness, who only wanted to be known as Nur, said she saw murky, foul-smelling water seeping from the sewage drains before spreading to nearby shops.
"This is the second time such an incident happened. The first time was in 2021, but at that time, the country was under the Movement Control Order and shopping malls were closed to the public.
"It took the management two days to clean up all the contaminated water on the lower ground floor," she said when contacted on Friday.
Nur added that the incident disrupted business operations, particularly for food outlets.
She said the stench was overwhelming and faecal matter was visible in several areas, including on the escalator.
Meanwhile, Sinar is seeking a response from the shopping mall’s management.
It is understood that cleaning efforts are underway and an investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the incident.
