Students expelled from university in Lithuania for improper AI use
According to Vilnius Tech, students most commonly use AI for written assignments and sourcing references.
VILNIUS - Vilnius University expelled ten students last year for violating rules on artificial intelligence (AI) use, Lithuanian National Video and Television (LRT) reported on Saturday.
While AI is not banned, some students do not always use it responsibly, the report said.
It quoted the university's vice-rector for studies, Valdas Jaskunas, as saying that in the past year, about ten students had been expelled "for improperly using AI in their work, such as in their final theses."
Improper use means failing to disclose that AI was used, according to Jaskunas.
Similar challenges are being reported at other universities.
"Instructors have mentioned that some students do use AI, and there have been cases where a student received an 'N' grade - indicating academic dishonesty - on their final assessment," said Nora Skaburskiene, director of the Studies Directorate at Vilnius Tech.
