SHAH ALAM - Three young men have each been fined RM1,200 for a dispute over a girlfriend that left a teenage boy injured.

The courtroom drama took place today as the trio pleaded guilty to the incident that happened five years ago.

Ng Yeong Jye, 22; Ng Jia Xin, 21; and Lim Song Ying, 20, faced Magistrate Arun Noval Dass, who handed down the penalties after the charges were read.

It was reported that the trio and another accomplice (still at large) were accused of ganging up on a 17-year-old at a Taman Setia Jaya restaurant in the early hours of December 2, 2020.

The victim, who suffered injuries to his face, hands and mouth, told police he was ambushed and beaten.

He was later treated at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI). Investigations revealed the fight broke out after tensions boiled over in a heated love triangle dispute.

Charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code (read with Section 34), the three risked a maximum penalty of one year in prison or a RM2,000 fine.

Represented by lawyer Mohamed Tahir A Rahman, the trio managed to avoid jail by paying the fines.
