JOHOR BAHRU – Several video recordings showing a young man being assaulted by a group of individuals, believed to have taken place in Pasir Gudang, have gone viral on social media.

The videos, ranging from one to two minutes in length, show the victim appearing weak and not fighting back, as he was beaten by around five to seven individuals.

The group of men used their hands and feet, punching the victim in the face, chest and other parts of the body.

More distressingly, one of the videos showed the victim’s private parts being targeted, as he was struck and kicked by the group.

The victim, clearly in pain and weakened, was seen writhing and bleeding from the nose.

The incident has sparked outrage among netizens, many of whom are urging the police to take swift action against the group of youths who acted like 'gangsters'.

It is believed the assault stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and a woman, who allegedly called her friends to beat him up.

According to social media comments, the woman is suspected to be the one who recorded the incident before it went viral across various platforms.

Police have since detained seven men and a woman to assist in the investigation in relation to the case.

Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the arrests were made after the police received a report from the 21-year-old victim on Saturday.

“The incident occurred at around 9.30pm when the victim went to an apartment after being invited by a female acquaintance through a social media application.

“Upon arrival, the victim was confined and subsequently beaten by eight local individuals, resulting in injuries to his lips, left ear, and bruises on his body.

“The victim later lodged a police report at the Plentong Police Station in Seri Alam at around 11.14pm on Saturday,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Following the report, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested all suspects, aged between 19 and 26, at around 2.30am on Sunday.

“Checks revealed that five of them had prior criminal records related to crime and drugs, while urine tests showed four tested positive for methamphetamine.

“All suspects are now remanded for six days until April 26 to assist in investigations under Sections 342, 385, and 324 of the Penal Code,” he said.
