TEHRAN, Iran - At least 406 people were injured in a large explosion at a port in Iran's southern province of Hormozgan on Saturday, the official news agency IRNA reported, citing Babak Yektaparast, spokesman for the country's Emergency Medical Services Organization.

The wounded have been transferred to nearby medical centers, Yektaparast said, adding that 15 ambulances and four ambulance buses were sent to the scene.

The blast, which occurred at a gas tank in the Port of Shahid Rajaee, has sent a huge column of smoke into the sky and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings and cars, the IRNA said.
