Zahid congratulates BN machinery and Ayer Kuning voters for by-election victory

SHAH ALAM - Celebrations erupted for Barisan Nasional (BN) after Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir secured victory in the Ayer Kuning by-election as supporters chant “Terima kasih kerana undi BN” ("Thank you for voting for BN").
As supporters gathered, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, fresh off a phone call with BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, shared with the crowd that the Umno President had congratulated the entire team for their hard-fought victory and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the election machinery and voters for their unwavering support.
"He sends his appreciation to all of you for making this win possible," he said, drawing loud cheers from supporters.
The mood outside the BN operations room turned jubilant, with BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters breaking into chants and songs of to celebrate the win.

The Ayer Kuning by-election featured a three-cornered contest between BN’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abd Muhaimin Malek, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) Bawani KS — who had also contested the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022.
The by-election was called following the death of incumbent assemblyman Datuk Ishsam Shahruddin on Feb 22 due to a heart attack. He had secured the seat in GE15 by defeating candidates from PH, PN, PSM, and Pejuang.
In the 2022 election, Ishsam garnered 9,088 votes (38.73 per cent), overcoming Mohd Nazri Hashim from PH who received 6,875 votes (29.30 per cent), Muhammad Noor Farid Zainal from PN with 6,812 votes (29.03 per cent), Bawani from PSM with 586 votes (2.50 per cent), and Maziah Salim from Pejuang with 105 votes (0.45 per cent). Ishsam won with a majority of 2,213 votes, amid a voter turnout of 74.85 per cent from 31,940 registered electors.
For this by-election, a total of 31,897 voters were registered to cast their ballots across 19 polling centres, with 63 channels in total. As celebrations continued, results from the remaining polling streams were still being finalised, but BN’s victory was already firmly secured.
