SHAH ALAM – A man decided to end his romantic relationship after being asked to prepare RM50,000 as a dowry.

Through a post shared by @Zafreezaharidan on Threads, he uploaded a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between himself and his ex-girlfriend regarding their discussion about marriage.

However, the conversation concluded with both parties mutually agreeing to separate amicably.

The man emphasised that although he respected his partner's discussion with her family and understood the reasoning behind the amount requested, the figure did not align with his personal principles.

“I’ve always believed that marriage should focus on building a future together, without unnecessary financial pressure.

“If RM50,000 is the required amount (RM40,000 being the minimum), then I believe it puts undue pressure on me and it’s not a test I’m willing to take,” he said.

He said that the decision to break up was made early on to avoid greater difficulties in the future.

“I feel it’s better for us to part ways before things become harder for both of us. I just feel I’m not the right person,” he added.
