World Central Kitchen runs out of food supplies in Gaza
Since early March, Israel has blocked all deliveries of aid to the besieged coastal enclave, which is home to around two million Palestinians.
TEL AVIV - US aid organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK) said on Wednesday it can no longer provide food to people in the Gaza Strip due to Israel's blockade of aid deliveries.
"After serving more than 130 million total meals and 26 million loaves of bread over the past 18 months, World Central Kitchen no longer has the supplies to cook meals or bake bread in Gaza," the organisation said in a statement.
Since early March, Israel has blocked all deliveries of aid to the besieged coastal enclave, which is home to around two million Palestinians.
According to the United Nations, hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza are facing food shortages.
WCK said its food reserves could not be replenished due to the blockade, adding that its field kitchens had run out of ingredients.
"Our trucks - loaded with food and supplies - are waiting in Egypt, Jordan and Israel, ready to enter Gaza. But they cannot move without permission. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to flow," WCK founder José Andrés said.
WCK says it had been providing meals to hundreds of thousands of people daily and continues to assist Palestinians by distributing drinking water.
The World Food Programme (WFP) also reported at the end of April that its food supplies in Gaza had been exhausted.
The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said it had no more flour available. - BERNAMA-dpa
