SHAH ALAM - A high-speed collision involving a four-wheel drive vehicle and a motorcycle near the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza in Kuala Lumpur has drawn widespread public attention due to allegations of reckless driving and viral dashcam footage.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, left a 53-year-old man and his 49-year-old wife who were on the motorcycle injured, with one of them currently in critical condition.

Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the incident, the investigation and its aftermath:

On Saturday evening, a four-wheel drive vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying a married couple near the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza on the Plus Highway.

Dashcam footage shared on social media showed several four-wheel drives seemingly racing just before the crash happened.

The footage has since gone viral, sparking public concern over reckless driving.

Police investigations later found that the person driving the Nissan Navara was not the registered owner of the vehicle.

This was confirmed in a statement on Monday by Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa.

The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was arrested for dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

His initial two-day remand has ended and police have applied for an extension to continue their investigation.

Once completed, the case will be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

The crash happened at around 2.30pm, when the Nissan Navara rammed into a Benelli TRK 502 motorcycle carrying a 53-year-old man and his 49-year-old wife.

The impact caused the couple to be thrown onto the roadside.

The man suffered a broken collarbone and ankle injuries.

His wife was more badly hurt, with a broken ankle, fractured ribs on her right side and internal bleeding in her brain.

She is currently in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

Dashcam footage from other road users has been a critical piece of evidence in this case.

Viral videos and posts about the incident have added to the public outcry, with many calling for justice for the victims and tougher highway rules.

If found guilty under Section 42(1), drivers could face imprisonment, fine and possibly having their driving licence suspended.
