Rafizi’s future in PKR depends on new leadership, analyst says
"If PKR decides to sideline Rafizi, perhaps there are reasons known only to the leadership."

SHAH ALAM – The future of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in PKR now depends entirely on the decision of the party’s new leadership lineup.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) political analyst, Professor Dr Kartini Aboo Talib, said the Economy Minister’s defeat in the race for deputy president to Nurul Izzah Anwar was a clear signal from PKR’s grassroots.
Therefore, she said, as a politician, he must accept the fact that winning and losing are part and parcel of any contest.
“In the context of a political party, we must understand that leaders come and go. If PKR decides to sideline Rafizi, perhaps there are reasons known only to the leadership. I believe his future now lies in the hands of the newly appointed PKR leadership.
“So Rafizi’s supporters must accept and embrace this defeat as a blessing in disguise. There is no need to protest. What’s important is for him to show a positive attitude, a big heart for the party, and continue to give his support, whether he holds a position or remains an ordinary member,” she said.
She said this in response to remarks by former Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who expressed concern over Rafizi’s future in the party following his loss in the deputy presidency contest.
Kartini added that the grassroots had already made their choice and that Nurul Izzah’s victory was a mandate that should be respected by everyone in the party.
“Saifuddin’s heartbreak may not reflect the sentiments of all PKR grassroots members. However, if PKR intends to shift gears and highlight new, capable leaders, then that is certainly their right as a strategy to strengthen the party,” she said.
Kartini added that PKR must continue moving forward with the newly elected leadership while ensuring all party members remain united.
“Winning and losing in politics is part of the game. Rafizi must demonstrate political maturity,” she said.
