Anwar reaffirms Malaysia’s stand against colonisation

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated Malaysia’s firm opposition to colonisation and voiced grave concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He called for an immediate ceasefire and a resolution to decades of Israeli aggression towards Palestine, emphasising Malaysia's commitment to justice and humanity.

"The situation in Gaza has been a pain in our hearts for far too long. We are with the Palestinian people, hoping for a final settlement, nothing more.

"I grew up opposing colonisation in any form and therefore, we reject any colonisation of any country," he said at the 2nd Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here, today.

Anwar stressed Malaysia’s position as a nation that valued human dignity and the aspirations of oppressed people worldwide.

He urged global leaders to end the atrocities that have plagued the Palestinian territories for decades.

"We grew up to respect dignity, humanity and the aspirations of people. We urge for an immediate ceasefire and the recognisation of the two-state solution," he added.

Malaysia has consistently stood in solidarity with Palestine, advocating for their rights at the United Nations and other international forums.

The Prime Minister's remarks came amid increasing calls from world leaders and humanitarian organisations for an end to the genocide in Gaza.
