Asean steps up meaningful engagement on Myanmar - Anwar
Discussions usually held in October have already begun which was a clear sign of accelerated progress.

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that Asean’s engagement on the Myanmar issue is making headway, with both sides now entering an early stage of structured dialogue.
Speaking at the closing press conference of the 46th Asean Summit and Related Meetings, Anwar said discussions usually held in October have already begun which was a clear sign of accelerated progress.
"This experience, resulting from the efforts of many of our officials and translated into this kind of recommendation, is quite unprecedented.
"Things that normally would be deliberated or discussed in October has been done now and we are moving forward, that I think to my mind is a major change even on the issue of Myanmar," he said.
Meanwhile, he said Asean’s focus regarding the situation in Gaza was now on establishing a prolonged ceasefire, delivering humanitarian assistance and continuing early discussions all while remaining within the broader framework of the Five-Point Consensus.
The 46th Asean Summit is being held under Malaysia’s 2025 chairmanship theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability."
This is Malaysia’s fifth time chairing Asean, having previously held the role in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
