His response came amidst speculation he might be appointed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Cabinet.

This speculation arose after Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad recently resigned, following their defeat in the PKR party elections.

Several media reports suggested the former lawmaker, might make a return as a minister.

When asked to comment on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call for Malays, regardless of political affiliation, to join the Malay People's Secretariat movement, Khairy declined to give a statement.
