Sungai Korok tragedy: Nurulhidayah welcomes sole survivor as her ‘new daughter’

She expressed her prayers and hopes that Putri Qisya will succeed in life and grow into a virtuous and respected individual.

SHAH ALAM – Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, daughter of the Deputy Prime Minister, recently paid a heartfelt visit to 12-year-old Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, the sole survivor of the tragic Jerlun family accident that claimed the lives of her parents and four siblings earlier this week.

The emotional encounter was shared by Nurulhidayah on her Facebook page on Wednesday, where she posted a photo with Qisya and expressed her sentiments.

“Meet my new daughter, Putri Qisya. Alhamdulillah, Allah made this easy. ‘Thethe’ loves Qisya. Her late mother’s name was Nurul Hidayah and now her new ‘Thethe’ (guardian) is Nurulhidayah,” she wrote.

The tragic accident occurred when six family members went missing on their journey from a relative’s home in Taman Aman, Jitra, back to Jerlun around 5.30am on Saturday.

The family's vehicle was later discovered submerged in Sungai Korok on Monday, with all six occupants found deceased inside the car.

Putri Qisya, the eldest child, had stayed behind with her grandmother in Jerlun and was not in the vehicle at the time of the tragedy.

Nurulhidayah prayed for Qisya’s future, writing, “May Qisya grow into a pious, successful and respected woman.”

The tragedy has stirred painful memories and garnered national attention.

The victims were identified as Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak, 32; his wife, Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, 31; and their children: Putra Rayyan Nur Izzat, 9; Hawa Adriana Nur Izzat, 8; Annayla Humaira Nur Izzat, 7; and six-month-old Tuah Haydar.

All six were laid to rest together in a single grave at the Kampung Bohor Karang Muslim Cemetery in Jerlun around 11.50pm on Monday night.
