14-year-old boy killed by falling oil palm tree in Pontian

JOHOR BAHRU - A 14-year-old boy was killed after being crushed by a falling oil palm tree in Parit Katik, Sanglang, Ayer Baloi, Pontian, near here this morning.
Pontian district police chief Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said they were alerted to the incident at about 11.30am and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Benut Health Clinic.
In a statement today, he said initial investigations revealed that the victim had accompanied his friend, who was carrying out drainage work, and was resting on a nearby bridge when he was crushed by the falling tree.
Mohammad Shofee said the investigation found no elements of foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death.
