Six-month-old baby dies after suspected suffocation at nursery

The daycare caregiver reportedly discovered the baby around 5pm while checking on him and noticed his face had turned bluish.

MELAKA - A six-month-old baby boy tragically died after he was found unconscious in a face-down position, believed to have suffocated at a childcare centre in Padang Temu, Melaka, on Wednesday.

The daycare caregiver reportedly discovered the baby around 5pm while checking on him and noticed his face had turned bluish.

The caregiver then immediately brought the baby to the daycare operator before rushing him to Klinik Utama Ujong Pasir for further medical attention.

“The doctor attempted to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for an ambulance to arrive, but the baby was later pronounced dead at Melaka Hospital after another round of CPR was performed,” a source said.

An initial examination found no signs of physical abuse or criminal elements on the baby’s body.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, confirmed that a report had been received and that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
