SHAH ALAM - In a move to foster unity and encourage local travel, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared Sept 15, as an additional public holiday to mark this year’s Malaysia Day celebrations.

The announcement was made during a live broadcast on Wednesday, as part of a special appreciation initiative for the people.

Anwar said the extra holiday recognises the unity and uniqueness that underpin the formation of Malaysia.

“This is also to encourage people to strengthen family ties back in their hometowns or take the opportunity to travel within the country,” he said.
