AFTER three decades in the spotlight, singer and Running Man star Kim Jong-kook has surprised fans with some big news, officially announcing that he is getting married.

The 49-year-old shared the update through a handwritten letter posted to his official fan forum, saying the wedding will be a small, private ceremony in Seoul with just close friends and family.

In his letter, Kim expressed that while he had long imagined writing such an announcement, actually putting it into words made him more nervous than he had expected.

“At some point, I always thought to myself that a day would come when I would write and post something like this, so I kept preparing for it in my heart.

“But now that I am actually writing it, I feel much more nervous and anxious than I had imagined.... I am getting married,” he wrote, posted on Aug 18.

The timing of the announcement coincides with a significant personal milestone, the 30th anniversary of his debut in the entertainment industry.

“This year marks my 30th debut anniversary, and while I had planned to release an album, life blessed me instead with my other half. I hope you will still congratulate me and cheer me on. It may be very late, but I am relieved that it is finally happening. I will do my best to live well,” he shared.

Although Kim had previously dropped subtle hints, he acknowledged that the news would still come as a surprise to many. Earlier this year, he purchased a luxury flat in Gangnam, Seoul, worth 6.2 billion won (approximately £3.5 million).

During a broadcast of SBS’s My Little Old Boy, he mentioned the property and hinted at future plans by saying, “If I am going to get married, I need to prepare.”

At the time, he referred to it as a potential “newlywed home,” sparking widespread speculation about his relationship status.

Despite the excitement, Kim has chosen not to reveal the identity of his fiancée, nor has he disclosed the exact date of the wedding.

In his letter, he also expressed deep appreciation to his loyal fans.

“Thanks to all of you, who have been my greatest source of strength for so long, I am able to marry and take on this new challenge in life. I will continue to work harder and live diligently,” he added.

Kim Jong-kook first entered the public eye in 1995 as a member of the pop duo Turbo, before launching a successful solo music career. He became one of the rare artists to sweep the Artist of the Year awards from all three major Korean TV networks in 2005.

His popularity continued to soar through his long-running role on Running Man, where his athleticism and strong personality earned him a massive fanbase across Asia and beyond.

In recent years, he also launched a fitness-themed YouTube channel, Gym Jong Kook, in 2021. The channel, which focuses on exercise and healthy living, has attracted over 3.2 million subscribers.

While the bride remains out of the spotlight for now, fans have overwhelmingly shown their support, congratulating Kim on this new chapter in his life, a personal milestone that beautifully coincides with his 30-year journey in show business.
