Air Force fighter jet involved in runway accident at Kuantan base

It is understood that two officers who were on board the aircraft were reported safe.

KUANTAN - A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) fighter jet was reported to have been involved in an accident at the Kuantan Air Base here on Thursday.

In a statement, the RMAF confirmed that the incident involved an F/A-18D Hornet aircraft, which occurred at 9.05 pm on the runway of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport.

“The RMAF is taking immediate action and will provide updates on the incident.

“All parties are urged not to spread any speculation or unverified information,” the statement read on Thursday.

Earlier, two viral videos showed a bright flare and thick smoke, believed to have been recorded by nearby residents.

It is understood that two military officers who were on board the aircraft were reported safe.
