KUALA LUMPUR – Despite still loving his wife, national footballer Faisal Halim has had to proceed with divorce proceedings at the Klang Lower Syariah Court.

Syariah lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represents Faisal, said his client did not wish to pronounce divorce as he wanted to save his marriage with his wife, Nur Syazwani Mizuana Shahri.

He added that Faisal, who was injured in an acid attack incident last year, had previously pronounced divorce on June 15 but reconciled the following day.

“We will first resolve the confirmation of the out-of-court pronouncement of divorce, followed by Nur Syazwani Mizuana’s divorce application.

"I want to stress that my client’s marital problems never stemmed from his popularity or busy schedule as a footballer,” he said.

On Sept 2, Nur Syazwani, as the applicant, filed for divorce under Section 47 of the Selangor Islamic Family Law Enactment 2003, which provides for divorce by mutual consent.

The court has fixed Oct 16 for further mention of the case before Syariah Judge Mohd Hairuddin Ab Rahim.

For the record, Faisal, also known as Mickey, married Nur Syazwani on March 9, 2019, and the couple has a son from the marriage.
