Rosé makes K-pop history with Song of The Year win at MTV VMAs

It’s a big day for K-pop! Blackpink's Rosé made history at the MTV Video Music Awards when she took home Song of the Year for her hit “APT. featuring Bruno Mars,” making her the first K-pop artist ever to win the coveted award.
When Rosé’s name was announced, the crowd erupted in cheers but what made the moment even sweeter was her speech.
She said the big win wasn’t just about her, but about everyone who has been by her side throughout the journey.
She gave a heartfelt shoutout to her Blackpink sisters Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa, and reminded everyone (including herself) that at the end of the day, it’s all about sticking together and never giving up.
“Blackpink members Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa.. and certainly last but not least, as my therapist tells me to do every day, I would like to thank myself for not giving up even in the toughest of times and always remember you have got you.
"Thank you MTV for this award and thank you everyone for loving APT. Thank you so much. This means so much to me. Thank you,” said Rosé in her acceptance speech.
Rosé also brought Korean pride to the spotlight by delivering part of her speech in her mother tongue.
Rosé speaking Korean on one of the world’s biggest music stages added an extra layer of emotion to the moment, reminding fans everywhere of her roots and just how far K-pop’s influence has spread across the globe.
On the same night, Lisa won Best K-pop for her track “Born Again” featuring Doja Cat and Raye.
While Rosé’s win marks a historic first for Song of the Year, she isn’t the only K-pop star to leave her mark on the VMAs stage.
In 2020, BTS’s “On” swept three awards including Best Pop, Best K-pop and Best Choreography.
The following year, their hit “Butter” claimed Best K-pop and Song of Summer.
And in 2024, Lisa carved her own place with “Rockstar,” taking home Best K-pop.
