KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has called on Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to resolve disputes through dialogue, stressing that unity is crucial in the current political landscape.

He said there is no benefit in division when members and the people want a stable party to represent them.

“If it is possible to sit down and discuss, that would be the best. The reality is that we need each other. There is no meaning in us being divided when members and the people genuinely want a stable party to represent them.

“Division can cause BN to lose credibility and that was what happened during the 15th General Election (GE15) when BN offered ‘stability’ but the people saw us divided,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Shamsul reminded that while the government is working on strengthening itself, BN cannot afford to be weakened by internal conflicts.

He also warned against measuring the strength or contributions of MCA and MIC solely by the number of seats won, as every vote remains valuable in politics.

“The fact is that their votes are spread across constituencies. Even if in some areas the number is small, it is still important because in politics even a single vote is crucial,” he explained.

He cited BN’s failure to form the Kelantan government in the past due to being short of just two votes, saying the incident should serve as a lesson, especially in today’s dynamic political environment.

As Umno is the backbone of BN, he said the party must respect and safeguard its partners to strengthen both BN and Umno.

“I love Umno and because of that, I believe Umno greatly respects and cares for other component partners for the strength of BN and Umno itself.

“We already lost component partners after GE14 and BN must not lose more partners,” he said.

Shamsul stressed that BN, as a long-established coalition, should focus on strengthening its unity instead of adding weaknesses and urged leaders to avoid remarks that could harm relationships and trust.

He added that whoever it might be, regardless of which party, refrain from making statements that could weaken their closeness, mutual respect and the understanding built since long ago.

“I am confident that the BN Chairman has the wisdom to resolve this. Believe me, any matter can be resolved if we sit together and discuss.” he added, expressing confidence in BN’s leadership.
