Doctors link man's near-fatal heart attack to vaping and energy drinks
Doctors later linked it to his frequent use of vape and powdered fruit-flavoured energy drinks.
SHAH ALAM – A routine day for 28-year-old Nur Hazwani Burahnuddin and her husband turned into a frightening ordeal when he almost suffered a heart attack after showing abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) readings.
Doctors later linked it to his frequent use of vape and powdered fruit-flavoured energy drinks.
Hazwani, who works at a hospital, said her husband first complained of chest pain before his condition worsened.
“After frequent consumption of energy drinks and vape, he began experiencing irregular heartbeats and extreme fatigue,” she said.
Concerned for his health, Hazwani immediately brought him for a medical check-up.
The ECG results revealed an irregular reading, something doctors warned could potentially lead to a sudden heart attack if left untreated.
Fortunately, a follow-up test showed that her husband’s condition had stabilised.
Doctors concluded that vaping combined with the consumption of energy drinks had triggered the abnormal results and carried a significant risk of heart problems.
Hazwani now urged others to take the warning seriously.
“I call on the public, especially young men who frequently consume energy drinks and vape, to stop before it is too late,” she said.
She also added that her husband consumed powdered fruit-flavoured drinks such as mango, grape and orange, which must be mixed with water before drinking.
According to Hazwani, these drinks were believed to contain very high levels of caffeine, artificial sweeteners and other stimulants that could damage the cardiovascular system if consumed excessively.
