RON95 at RM1.99? PM’s promise set to kick in end of this month
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said although implementation took some time, the promise would still be fulfilled as proof of the government’s commitment to the people’s welfare.

PUTRAJAYA – The targeted RON95 subsidy is expected to be rolled out by the end of this month, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s promise.
Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said although implementation took some time, the promise would still be fulfilled as proof of the government’s commitment to the people’s welfare.
"The Prime Minister will fulfil his promise to Malaysians. By the end of this month, the price of RON95 petrol will drop to RM1.99 per litre through the targeted subsidy.
"He is a man of his word and every promise he makes will be delivered for the people," he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
At the same time, Saifuddin, who is also the Home Minister reminded the public to check the condition of their MyKad chip to ensure it is working before the targeted subsidy is rolled out.
"If the chip is damaged or unreadable, don’t worry. Just head to any National Registration Department office or counter nationwide. It can be fixed on the same day. Easy and fast!," he said.
"Don’t wait until the last minute. Do the checks early so everyone can benefit from this special petrol subsidy for Malaysians," he said.
Earlier, a video went viral showing a new device that will be used to implement the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy after it was uploaded on Facebook by Eric See To-Lim Sian See.
The one-minute-13-second video showed a training session conducted by the supplier for petrol station operators on how to use the machine.
In August, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government would proceed with plans to implement the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy, with further details expected to be announced by the end of September, this year.
The move was necessary as the long-standing blanket subsidy policy has only burdened the nation’s fiscal position and failed to benefit the majority of citizens.
