SHAH ALAM – What was once a hard-won joy after a decade of waiting has now turned into unbearable grief for a young family.

A tragic crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza on Saturday claimed the life of a 12-month-old baby, Amir Husayn, leaving his parents devastated. Eight others were injured in the four-vehicle collision.

The baby’s father, Amirul Ridzuan Abu Bakar, 39, said he and his wife, Nurul Husna Khairuddin, 38, had long yearned for a child.

After 10 years of trying, including In-Vitro Fertilisation treatment, their prayers were answered when they welcomed twin boys, last year.

“Since we married in 2013, my wife and I tried nearly a decade to have children. Finally, on May 20 last year, we were blessed with twins. Amir Husayn was born just 15 seconds after his brother, Amir Hasan,” Amirul said.

But their happiness was cruelly cut short.

On the day of the crash, Amirul was away in Kedah for work as a lecturer in Perlis. His wife had taken the twins and her parents for breakfast at TTDI Grove. Their car was struck in the crash, believed to have been caused by faulty brakes on a lorry.

Amir Husayn was thrown out of the vehicle and later confirmed to have died from internal bleeding. His twin, Amir Hasan, was treated at the hospital and was discharged on Saturday night, although doctors will continue monitoring his condition.

Amirul shared that his younger son’s remains were laid to rest at the Sungai Kantan Muslim Cemetery.

The accident, which occurred at about 10.50am, killed Amir Husayn on the spot and left seven other victims injured. They are now receiving treatment at Hospital Kajang, Hospital Serdang and KPJ Kajang.

For Amirul and his wife, the memory of their son is a reminder of both the miracle of his life and the deep pain of his loss.
