Man with knife arrested after attempting to steal sausage

HAMBURG - A man with a knife in his hand unsuccessfully attempted to steal a sausage in the north-eastern German city of Rostock, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
The 19-year-old, who was known to the police, threatened a vendor at a sausage stand on Saturday, the police said on Sunday.
However, the vendor refused to comply with the demand. Consequently, the 19-year-old initially fled but was then overpowered by officers.
Before the incident, the young man is said to have stolen several kitchen knives from a shop, threatened people with them and robbed e-cigarettes from another store.
As he was apparently under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the police took a blood sample from him.
The officers initiated criminal proceedings for aggravated robbery, attempted extortion, threats and theft.
On Sunday, the district court issued a formal arrest warrant. - BERNAMA-dpa
