Ti Lian Ker: From “Apa Cina Mahu” to Political Irrelevance
Former MCA Vice-President Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker reflected on the long-debated question once raised by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak - 'Apa Cina mahu?' (What do the Chinese want?).
He explained that while the Chinese community remains Malaysia’s second-largest ethnic group, its needs and aspirations have evolved over time.
Ti noted that under Barisan Nasional’s past framework, Chinese concerns were discussed discreetly and pragmatically behind closed doors, balancing priorities without public confrontation.
Today, however, Chinese and Indian politics have become marginalized.
