GAZA - An Israeli soldier dies after suffering a severe allergic reaction from a hornet sting while hiking at the occupied Golan Heights, sparking discussion about allergy awareness among the country’s security forces.
The victim, identified as Levena Shalev, served as a driver for the mobility unit under the 228th Brigade, Nahal Reconnaissance Unit.
According to an official statement from the unit’s association, Shalev had died after suffering a serious allergic reaction caused by a hornet sting during an outdoor activity with her team.

Military medical personnel had administered first aid at the scene but were unable to save her and she was later confirmed dead.
The Israeli forces said an internal investigation had been launched to review the incident.
The death gained attention from local media as it was considered rare among soldiers, particularly when caused by insect stings.
The incident also prompted discussions within Israeli society on the awareness level of severe allergic reactions, or anaphylaxis, among security personnel.
Located near the Syrian border, the Golan Heights continued to serve as a strategic area under the Zionist regime’s military control since it was seized in 1967.
