MEDAN – What started as an early-morning annoyance turned into a violent rampage in Medan Tuntungan, Indonesia, when a man, furious over his neighbour’s constantly crowing rooster, stabbed a father and son in a shocking burst of rage.

The suspect, 35-year-old Daniel Tampubolon, reportedly lost his temper after being disturbed by the rooster’s endless cock-a-doodle-doo.

Instead of buying earplugs or talking it out, Daniel grabbed a knife and attacked his neighbours, a father and son, outside their home on Jalan Jamin Ginting last Sunday.

Both victims sustained stab wounds to their back, chest and hands.

When police later arrested Daniel, he told Tribun Medan that he had “just wanted to talk” about the rooster.

“The roosters crow at random times. When I checked, there was only one. But I felt like they were deliberately trying to make me uncomfortable living there,” he said while dressed in a detainee jumpsuit.

Daniel also claimed he had no intention to kill, insisting that the knife was “just for talking.”

“I brought a small knife just to talk about the rooster, not to stab or kill anyone,” he said.

Here’s where things took a bizarre turn.

After stabbing his neighbours, Daniel reportedly pretended to help search for the “attacker.”

He even borrowed a flashlight from another resident and joined neighbours in the manhunt, for himself.

“He was even helping us look for the suspect. None of us knew it was him,” one local resident told reporters.

Locals described Daniel as a quiet, introverted man who fixed electronic appliances for a living and rarely socialised.

Police have since arrested him and seized his house keys, motorbike and phone as part of the investigation.
