KUALA KRAI – Imagine seeing a five-metre king cobra chilling inside an old fridge behind your house. This really happened in Kampung Sungai Embak, Kuala Krai, yesterday.

But for professional snake handler Mohd Hamdan Mahadi, it was just another day at work.

Hamdan, who is a snake whisperer and Malaysia Cobra Special Team chairman, swooped in after getting a call from locals around 9.30am.

“With experience on my side, I only took 10 seconds to catch the five-metre-long snake,” he said, as if catching a giant cobra was just another morning stretch.

The 12-kilogramme serpent was hiding inside an old, broken refrigerator behind a villager’s house.

After the quick catch, Hamdan released the cobra safely back into the wild, far from people’s homes.

But he’s got a word of warning too: Clean your yard!

“The current unpredictable weather causes snakes to seek shelter near residential areas.

“So, people need to be more cautious. If they spot a snake inside their house, immediately contact the rescue team for help,” he said.

Moral of the story, maybe it’s time to check that old refrigerator behind your house because you never know who is moving in.
