In this powerful reflection, Iylia Balqis Suhaimi shares how her journey on the Global Sumud Flotilla was calm, not because it was easy but because her expectations were far worse.

Knowing the history of violent interceptions in past flotilla missions, she mentally prepared for the worst - beatings, strip searches, humiliation.

Yet, to her surprise, the Israeli soldiers who intercepted them treated the group with what she describes as 'good cop politeness'.

But Iylia is clear, this wasn’t kindness. It was performance.
