JOHOR BAHRU - Police believe that the two boys who were found drowned in Tasik Menawan, Taman Pelangi Indah here today had gone fishing there in the afternoon.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat said this is based on their preliminary investigation.

"However, when they failed to return home at night, efforts were made by the Pelangi Indah PPR community to look for them. They found two pairs of slippers believed to belong to the victims at the side of the lake and contacted the police,” he said in a statement today.

He added that a team from the Taman Pelangi Indah Police Station and personnel from the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, Skudai Water Rescue Unit (PPDA), as well as members of the Ulu Tiram and Mount Austin volunteer fire brigades conducted the search and rescue operation at the site.

"The body of the first victim was found at 2.10am, and the second victim was found at 2.18am, with both bodies found about five metres from one another," he said.

Raub said that initial examinations found no signs of injury or criminal elements, and the case had been classified as a sudden death report.

"We would like to advise the public, especially parents and guardians, to always monitor their children's movements and not allow them to play near lakes, rivers or mines without adult supervision," he said. - BERNAMA
