MH2742 passenger details terrifying loss of cabin pressure over Sarawak
SHAH ALAM – A Malaysia Airlines passenger recounts a terrifying experience when flight MH2742 suffered a sudden loss of cabin pressure before safely landing at Bintulu Airport.
The ordeal left passengers shaken and deeply grateful to have survived.
One of the passengers on Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH2742 shared his terrifying experience when the aircraft experienced a loss of cabin pressure before landing at Bintulu Airport, Sarawak, on Wednesday.
“I thought that was the final flight of our lives, my wife’s and mine,” said the passenger.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, about an hour before the flight, which had departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 8.20am, was scheduled to land in Bintulu, Sarawak.
In a Facebook post, passenger Abdul Jalil described how panic spread inside the cabin after an unusual noise was heard, followed by a sudden descent.
Moments later, oxygen masks dropped automatically from the overhead compartments.
“When the oxygen masks were released and the captain declared an emergency and advised passengers to put on their oxygen masks, I knew something was not right.
"At that moment, it crossed my mind that this could be our final flight. At least there would be a final recording for our children and grandchildren to remember us by,” he wrote.
He said the cabin fell into silence as many passengers appeared anxious, while flight attendants were not seen giving their usual instructions.
However, the situation improved when the pilot later informed them that the aircraft had stabilised at an altitude of 10,000 feet before successfully landing at Bintulu Airport at 10.35am.
Abdul Jalil also expressed gratitude for their safe landing, saying that the brief incident felt much longer as it brought back many memories and silent prayers.
He added that the experience had given him a deeper appreciation of life and a stronger sense of dependence on Allah SWT.
