JAKARTA - A woman in Jakarta has been arrested for cutting off her husband’s genitals after discovering alleged messages of infidelity on his phone, an act that later led to the man’s death.

Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as HZ, 33, committed the assault on her husband, H, 35, at their home in Sukabumi Utara, Kebon Jeruk, on July 20.

Kebon Jeruk Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKP Ganda Sibarani said based on the suspect’s statement, her actions were triggered by jealousy after finding messages on her husband’s phone that were believed to show he was involved with another woman.

Investigations revealed that HZ found her husband’s mobile phone on a table in their bedroom and read the messages that provoked her anger.

She then tried to wake her husband for intimacy, but he refused and went to the bathroom.

The suspect, consumed by rage, went to the kitchen to retrieve a chopping knife before returning to the bedroom.

While the victim was lying down, she approached him and cut off his genitals.

The wounded man reportedly regained consciousness and questioned his wife, who accused him of infidelity.

In panic, HZ placed the severed organ into a plastic bag and took her husband to Anggrek Mas Hospital on a motorcycle before he was transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).

“Unfortunately, the victim passed away at RSCM after receiving treatment for 23 days, on August 12, due to the serious injuries he suffered,” Ganda Sibarani said, as quoted by Antara.

The police later conducted a crime scene reconstruction involving 18 scenes at the Kebon Jeruk Police Station on Oct 21, with the suspect and several witnesses present.

HZ has been charged under Section 354 of the Indonesian Penal Code for causing serious injury, which carries a maximum sentence of nine years’ imprisonment.
