SEREMBAN - United States President Donald Trump came to Malaysia not to visit the country, but with another purpose, Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) president claims.

Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said that the main purpose of Trump’s visit was to establish good relations with Australia.

“He didn’t come here to visit Malaysia. He wants Lynas, he wants rare earth elements.

“He wants to buy rare earths and that’s why he wants to foster good relations with Australia. That’s the main intention of his visit,” he said after officiating the 50th Negeri Sembilan Gerakan State Delegates Conference at a hotel here on Sunday.

He said this when asked to comment on Gerakan’s stance regarding Trump’s visit, who arrived in Malaysia on Sunday for the 47th Asean Summit, which is taking place over two days.

Trump safely arrived at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, aboard Air Force One, which landed around 9.54am.

Trump’s arrival was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as well as Ambassador Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob and the US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D Kagan.

Dominic emphasised that Gerakan and Perikatan Nasional have a clear stance, which is to reject Trump’s visit, as it is deemed to bring no benefits to the country.

“Our stance is to reject Trump’s visit because whatever he does is solely as the United States President.

“We see no benefits from his visit to Malaysia. Moreover, he has used his authority on the Palestine issue. That’s something we absolutely disagree with. Innocent women and children, why must there be war?

“We cannot accept the United States continuing to interfere in this war. We absolutely do not agree,” he said.
