KUALA LUMPUR – It is not every day you see an entire country spamming your Facebook comments section with heart emojis, but that is exactly what happened to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after Malaysia helped seal the Thailand–Cambodia peace deal.
Anwar just got a massive shoutout from Cambodian netizens, and no, it is not over durians or football this time.

It is for helping broker the KL Peace Agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, a move that has got Southeast Asia buzzing.
Comments poured in on his official Facebook and Prime Minister Office pages, with Cambodians saying “thank you” over and over for Malaysia’s role as peace matchmaker.
One fan, Keo Dalis, wrote, “Thank you for your hard work in helping us.” Another, Hei Nail, dropped, “Thank you for your effort to create peace.” Meanwhile, Teav Kim Leamg added, “I am Cambodian. Thank you for your kindness in always helping and supporting Cambodia to achieve peace.”
Over 4,900 comments later, the post turned into a wholesome mini love-fest between Malaysians and Cambodians.
Even Malaysians jumped in: “Many of my friends from Cambodia and Thailand liked it when I shared about this today… congratulations PMX!” one user wrote.
The peace agreement, signed at the 47th Asean Summit, marked a huge step in rebuilding trust between Thailand and Cambodia after years of tension. Malaysia, as Asean Chair, played the mediator role and nailed it.
Anwar himself called the deal a “historic moment” for Asean diplomacy, saying it built on the Putrajaya ceasefire agreed on July 28.
He even gave a shoutout to Donald Trump for helping persuade both sides to make peace, and yep, that happened.
“The peace agreement is proof that Asean’s voice is growing stronger as a bridge for peace, showing that moderation and dialogue can resolve disputes,” Anwar said.
He also reminded everyone that peace is not just for neighbours, calling for the same energy to be extended to Gaza, so “justice and humanity can once again become the foundation of the global order.”
On Instagram, young Cambodians joined in too. qiao_zhennn wrote: “I’m very grateful to Mr Prime Minister, Mr Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia.” nory898800 added: “Big thanks to the Prime Minister of Malaysia who always helps Cambodia to solve this matter. We, Cambodian people, are so proud of you.”
In short, Malaysia just became the cool big sibling of Asean.
