KUALA LUMPUR – A brief commotion erupted in the Dewan Rakyat when Khoo Poay Tiong (PH–Kota Melaka) questioned the status of Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN–Tasik Gelugor), who remained seated in the opposition bloc despite being expelled from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

During the final stages of the debate on the Supply Bill 2026 (Budget 2026), Wan Saiful explained that he was still within the appeal period following Bersatu’s decision to dismiss him.

However, his explanation was met with sarcasm from Khoo, who questioned whether Wan Saiful still wanted to stay in Bersatu.

“Mr Speaker, we understand that the MP for Tasik Gelugor has been expelled by his party. Why is he still seated in the same bloc? Is he now an independent MP or still part of the opposition?” Poay Tiong asked.

“In our party, there are procedures that allow for an appeal to be made. Until that appeal period ends…” replied Wan Saiful.

“Still want to remain in Bersatu?” Khoo pressed further.

“If you want a course on the Bersatu Constitution, I can give you one. I know it too…” Wan Saiful shot back.

Khoo, however, continued his jab:

“Outside, you talk about Pagoh, but in Parliament, you still want to stick with Bersatu?” he said.

Previously, Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board terminated Wan Saiful’s membership as a member of the party’s Supreme Leadership Council after receiving a written complaint from a party member against several individuals accused of breaching the party constitution and code of conduct.

A disciplinary hearing was held on Oct 8, 2025 and action was taken based on a thorough investigation in accordance with Clause 9.1.4 and the Party Members’ Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Along with Wan Saiful, four others were also expelled, Mohd Azrudin Md Idris, Mohd Faizal Asmar, Mohd Fahdli Ismail and Mohd Isa Mohd Saidi.
