KUALA LUMPUR – Controversial artist Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, is now facing two drug-related charges after police arrested him during a raid at a Kuala Lumpur hotel in October.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the arrest was carried out by officers from the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters on Oct 22 at about 4.30pm.

A search in the hotel room found nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy weighing an estimated 5.12 grams.

He said the 42-year-old suspect was then taken to the Dang Wangi IPD for further investigation.

Fadil said an initial urine screening test showed that the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.

The suspect was remanded for two days under a court order to assist investigations before charges were filed.

On Oct 24, he was brought to the Kuala Lumpur Court and charged with two offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“For the first charge, the suspect was charged under Section 39A(1) for drug possession, while the second charge was under Section 15(1)(a) for drug use.

“The suspect pleaded not guilty to both charges and the court allowed bail of RM4,000 for each charge with one local surety,” he said.

He added that the case has been set for mention on Dec 18.
