Namewee denies fleeing, says he’s cooperating in police probe
“I will not run away."

KUALA LUMPUR – Rapper and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, popularly known as Namewee, has denied running away amid an ongoing police investigation into the death of a Taiwanese influencer at a hotel in Jalan Conlay on Oct 22.
He said that he came voluntarily to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Wednesday night assist investigators and clarify the situation to both the public and the victim’s family.
“I am now at the police station and will give my full cooperation to assist with the investigation and provide clarification to the public and the woman’s family.
“I will not run away. Previously, in the seven times I was called by the authorities, I voluntarily came forward to give my statement. I have never run away,” he said in a Facebook post after arriving in Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that the case, which was initially classified as sudden death (SDR), is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He added that Namewee was believed to have been at the scene when the incident took place.
“Investigations are ongoing and we are looking at all angles, including the individuals last seen with the victim,” he said.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam also confirmed that Namewee would be remanded this morning at the Dang Wangi IPD to facilitate the investigation.
